Electricity Unit Price in Pakistan

There is a continuous increment in the electricity unit price in Pakistan, resulting in huge electricity bills. It has created so many troubles for the middle or lower class of Pakistan.

The price of energy per unit in Pakistan increased by Rs4.56 on February 3, 2024. Afterwards, the energy department of Pakistan has increased electricity costs multiple times.

It is unfortunate that there is no certain set of parameters to change the electricity unit price in Pakistan. However, electricity is becoming more expensive with every passing year.ย

Additionally, you must remember that the cost of electrical power per unit varies depending on the province and location you live in.ย

However, solar energy is an alternative solution to this increase in the price of electricity. People must invest in renewable energy and switch to sustainable solar solutions.ย

Here is some happy news: solar panel prices in Pakistan have fallen to their lowest price and become affordable for the middle class as well.

In different provinces of Pakistan, namely, Punjab, Sindh, KPK, Balochistan, and Gilgit Baltistan, the prices of electrical units are different.

The divisional electric supply corporations provide electrical supplies at variable prices in each province. But, how much does an Electricity Unit cost in Pakistan nowadays?

Nepra decides the electrical supply rates and prepares the functioning price structure for Pakistanโ€™s nationwide electrical system.ย

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEEPRA) was established under Section 3 to regulate the provision of electric power services in Pakistan.

NEPRA holds complete control and fully manages the supply of electricity across Pakistan. It takes responsibility and ensures the regulations are based on solid commercial principles nationwide.

Pakistanโ€™s government decides on the new rates of electricity only when NEPRA asks them. That is why , NEPRA prepares the whole pricing structure for Pakistanโ€™s electricity distribution services.

How can you calculate your electricity bill?

It is not very simple to calculate your electricity bill, if you still want to know, keep reading the following paragraphs. In the end, there is a video explanation of the process of calculating electricity bills.ย

Click on โ€œCalculating the electricity billโ€. Or watch the following video. I hope this video clip on electricity bill calculation will let you easily understand the calculation.

You will learn which factors can affect your electricity bill and why the rate goes up after a specific number of units of electricity are consumed.

Letโ€™s learn through a numerical example: Suppose a monthly consumption of 200 units, with 50 units consumed during peak hours.

  • Base Tariff: 200 units ร— Rs 20/unit = Rs 4,000
  • FAC: No change in fuel prices, so Rs 0
  • Taxes & Surcharges: Calculated at 20% of the base tariff and FAC, totaling Rs 600.
  • Peak Hour Charges: Separately calculated charges based on the applicable rate plus additional units consumed during peak hour time, resulting a total of to Rs 267.35.

Total Bill Calculation:

  • Summing up all the components:
    • Base Tariff + FAC + Taxes & Surcharges + Peak Hour Charges = Total Billย

Final Bill:

  • In this supposed example, the electricity bill for a month would be Rs 4867.35.
